Amazon's same-day prescription deliveries are coming to even more cities
Source: Engadget
Overview
Amazon announced that its same‑day prescription delivery service will expand to 4,500 new cities and towns by the end of 2026. The service, originally launched as Amazon Pharmacy in 2020 with a two‑day delivery option, has steadily increased both its availability and delivery speed, reaching nearly half of all U.S. residents in 2024.
Expansion Details
- The announcement does not list every new city, but it confirms that Idaho and Massachusetts will receive same‑day delivery for the first time.
- Historically, same‑day delivery eligibility has depended on the locations of Amazon’s fulfillment centers that can host pharmacies.
- In addition to same‑day delivery, Amazon Pharmacy offers next‑day delivery and, in some cities, the option to pick up prescriptions at Amazon’s OneMedical offices.
International Trademarks
- Amazon applied for Amazon Pharmacy trademarks in the UK, Canada, and Australia in 2020.
- As of now, the prescription delivery service has not expanded to those regions.
RxPass Subscription
- In 2023, Amazon launched RxPass, a $5‑per‑month subscription that allows Amazon Prime members to order from a curated list of over 50 common medications for a flat fee.
- Starting in 2024, Medicare recipients can also access the RxPass subscription.
