Immersion Reading
Torn between reading an ebook and listening to the narrated version? Amazon’s Audible is introducing a clever solution that it calls immersion reading.
Immersion reading syncs up Kindle ebooks with Audible audiobooks via a new “read and listen” feature.
This feature allows customers who have both the audiobook and eBook versions of a title in their Audible and Kindle libraries to follow along with synchronized, highlighted text, delivering a seamless, best‑in‑class experience.
The feature works automatically with the Audible app, presenting the “read and listen” mode when a customer has both the audiobook and ebook purchased.
While Amazon also supports a feature called Whispersync for Voice that saves progress between ebooks and audio versions, the new “read and listen” mode lets customers experience a title in both ways without choosing a single format.
“Audible automatically identifies which eBooks in a user’s Kindle library have audiobook matches,” Amazon says, “and a dedicated library filter will surface all their available titles in one place, with no searching required.”
