Google I/O 2026 wrapped up after nearly two hours of announcements, with AI taking center stage. The event highlighted several new Gemini models and related updates.

Google unveiled a new family of AI models, Gemini 3.5. The first model, Gemini 3.5 Flash, launches now, with Gemini 3.5 Pro arriving next month.

  • Gemini 3.5 Flash is claimed to be four times faster than other frontier models in output tokens per second (TPS).
  • It outperforms most frontier models on key benchmarks, including Gemini 3.1 Pro.

During the keynote, Google announced that Gemini 3.5 Flash will become the default model for the Gemini app and for Google Search’s AI Mode.

In addition to Gemini 3.5, Google introduced Gemini Omni, a new “world model” described by DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis as a pivotal step toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).

  • The first model, Gemini Omni Flash, was showcased at the event.
  • Unlike typical text‑to‑video models, Gemini Omni is multimodal for both input and output: users can submit text, audio, images, and video, and the model generates realistic, scientifically accurate content using Gemini’s real‑world knowledge.

Gemini Omni Flash is available today to paid Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers within the Gemini app and Google Flow. It will also launch in YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app later this week at no cost to users.

Gemini Spark

Gemini Spark is billed as “your personal AI agent.” It integrates with Google’s suite of products and, eventually, with more than 30 third‑party tools via MCP (e.g., Adobe, Dropbox, Uber).

  • Spark can pull relevant emails and Docs files to draft updates for your boss.
  • It runs entirely in the cloud, requiring no local hardware.

U.S. Google AI Ultra subscribers will see Gemini Spark roll out inside Gmail and Chat within the next week.

Google announced new pricing for its AI Ultra subscription:

  • The starting price drops to $200 per month.
  • A lower‑cost tier is introduced at $99 per month.

Previously, the Ultra tier cost $250 per month for access to the latest Gemini features such as AI Inbox.

The Gemini app receives a new design language called Neural Expressive, featuring:

  • More fluid animations, haptic feedback, and vibrant colors.
  • Integrated Gemini Live voice experience directly into the core UI, eliminating the need to switch contexts.

Google says the redesign will roll out globally across Gemini’s desktop, Android, and iOS apps.
