AI-generated music controversy at the 2026 Winter Olympics
AI‑generated content, which some call slop, is everywhere. The 2026 Winter Olympics are no exception, as Czech ice dancers faced criticism for using AI‑generated music in their routine.
The incident
In the run‑up to the Games, Czech pair Katerina Mrazkova and Daniel Mrazek were accused of using an AI‑created song that closely resembled the 1998 New Radicals hit “You Get What You Give”. Journalist Shana Bartels has covered the saga in depth on Patreon:
Although they did not reuse that tune in Milan, the pair later performed to another AI‑generated piece whose lyrics appeared to mirror Bon Jovi’s track “Raise Your Hands”.
The rest of the program
The latter half of their routine featured music created by human artists, specifically the rock classic “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. Despite the mix of AI and human‑made music, viewers expressed strong disapproval, noting that figure skating is a sport celebrated for its human artistry.
Results
The AI‑generated music did not translate into competitive success. The Czech duo received a score of 72.09, placing them outside the medal contention.
