Introduction

Do you feel lonely and want someone around you, especially when you’re fighting endless bugs alone at midnight? The AI Avatar extension for Visual Studio Code can cheer you up with a bright smile, full‑body animation, and thoughtful messages. It watches over you 24/7 right inside VS Code.

Installation

Option 1 – Install from VS Code

1. Open the Extensions view (the square icon in the left sidebar).
2. Search for AI Avatar.
3. Click Install.

Customizing the Avatar

If the default avatar isn’t your type, you can create your own for free using VRoid:

Features

• The avatar plays an animation whenever Claude Code responds, giving the AI a “human‑like” presence.
• Click the avatar or press Enter to interact.
• A cheering message is displayed each time the animation runs, helping to recharge your energy and boost coding progress.
• Built with Three.js, a popular 3D graphics library, with AI assistance. See the extension’s README for more details.

Development & Publishing

This was the author’s first VS Code extension. Publishing is straightforward: create a publisher on the Visual Studio Marketplace and submit the extension. The approval process took about five minutes.

Future Plans

• Create custom avatar animations (currently limited to 7 official VRoid patterns).
• Study Blender to avoid “zombie” poses generated by AI‑based animation attempts.
• Add more AI features, adjustable parameters, expressions, and trigger events.
• Incorporate community suggestions for updates.
