Following the announcement that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition would soon be coming to Mac gamers for the first time, the game is now available. Here are the details.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition out now for the Mac

In late April, it was announced that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition would finally make its way to macOS as an Apple Silicon‑native version with “4K visuals, a remastered soundtrack, new animations,” and more.

Now, the game is officially available on Mac via Steam and the Feral Store, priced at $34.99, with all DLC also available on both stores. A Mac App Store version is also in the works and is expected to debut later this year.

Here’s what to expect from the new release, according to Feral Interactive:

  • The base game includes three expansions — “Lords of the West,” “Dynasties of India,” and “Dawn of the Dukes” — each introducing new campaigns and civilizations.
  • A huge range of purchasable DLC is also available, including the recently released “The Last Chieftains,” which pits medieval history and folklore against each other in campaigns across the varied terrains of South America.
  • Players can take on single‑player campaigns built around historical leaders, play Skirmish mode against up to eight opponents (online or offline), and team up with other Mac players in cooperative multiplayer campaigns based on historical scenarios.
