A respectable port of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition invades macOS

Release Information
Despite the graphics capabilities of modern Macs, being a Mac gamer is often a thankless existence. Occasionally, a substantial release offers a brief moment of optimism. Today, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has arrived on macOS — announced on X (formerly Twitter).
The game is available on Steam. Owners of the Windows version on Steam automatically receive the Mac version. A later release on the Mac App Store is also planned.
Content Packs
The macOS port includes the original Age of Kings expansion and three recent content packs:
- Lords of the West
- Dynasties of India
- Dawn of the Dukes
Additional DLC and content packs that are available on Windows are also supported on the Mac version, providing hundreds of extra hours of gameplay.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition brings several upgrades over the original:
- Updated assets and engine supporting up to 4K resolution
- New unit animations
- Remastered soundtrack
- Numerous quality‑of‑life improvements
The game continues to receive periodic expansion packs from World’s Edge, the Microsoft‑owned studio behind the Definitive Edition.
