Strike overview

At the end of January, Ubisoft workers in France threatened to strike amid sweeping layoffs and cost‑cutting measures. The threat was carried out from February 10–12, with union members confirming that at least 1,200 staff participated in the three‑day action. While the strike was centred in France, Ubisoft’s Milan office also joined the walkout.

Demands and worker concerns

The union Solidaires Informatique, which represents French video‑game workers (including those at Blizzard and Ubisoft), had previously called for a strike on January 27. Their demands included:

  • A 10 % salary increase for all employees.
  • Implementation of a four‑day work week.

Employee actions

Striking employees staged demonstrations outside Ubisoft’s Paris headquarters. One protester, pictured wearing a Rabbids mask to conceal their identity, held up a sign outlining the grievances. Among the complaints were:

  • Reported layoffs of hundreds of staff in 2026.
  • A new mandate requiring employees to work on‑site five days a week.
  • Retaliation against an employee who publicly opposed the return‑to‑work policy, resulting in their dismissal.

Company context

Ubisoft’s challenges extended beyond labour disputes. In 2026 the publisher:

  • Canceled the long‑awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, along with five other titles.
  • Confirmed several studio closures as part of an organisational restructuring.
